- History of Flight:
On July 4, 2026, at about 1120 local time, a Flightstar II SC ultralight, N432JP, sustained substantial damage when it struck powerlines during takeoff from South Lakeland Airport (X49), Lakeland, Florida. The pilot and passenger were seriously injured.
Preliminary information indicates the ultralight experienced an engine issue of somesort and was trying to make an emergency landing. The FAA reported: "Aircraft struck power lines while departing and crashed on a highway."
The pilot, aged 59, held a sports pilot certificate with a rating for airplane single engine land. There was a restriction that states "Holder does not meet ICAO requirements." The pilot held an A&P certificate. There was no medical information available.
