- History of Flight:
On September 23, 2026, at about 1533 local time, a privately-registered Cessna 172B Skyhawk, N44P, was destroyed when it was involved in an accident near the B & G Farms Airport (4WA0), Royal City, Washington. The private pilot was fatally injured. The flight originated from an unknown airport, and was destined to an unknown location.
The FAA reported that the airplane "crashed under unknown circumstances in a field."
There was no ADS-B data available for the accident flight.
The airplane came to rest inverted in an open farm field across 4WA0 and there was no post crash fire. All four corners of the aircraft were present at the accident site. There was no debris path leading to the wreckage. The main fuselage/cabin was inverted, the engine remained attached to the airframe and was aft crushed into the cockpit. Both wings remained attached to the airframe and sustained impact damage. The tail was partially detached from the airframe and was located over the fuselage. The horizontal and vertical sections remained free of impact damage.
The pilot, aged 89, held a private pilot certificate (last issued/updated on 7/15/2020) with an airplane single engine land rating. The pilot's medical records were not available on the FAA site and the following comment was there instead: "No Medical Information Available *** TO VERIFY MEDICAL INFORMATION CONTACT AAM-300 405-954-4821 ***"
The four-seat, high wing, fixed gear airplane, serial number 17248620, was manufactured in 1961. It was powered by a Lycoming O-300 engine.
4WA0 is a private use airport located 5 miles WNW of Royal City, Washington. The airport field elevation is 1175 ft. The airport features a single asphalt runway 7/25 which is 3700 x 65 ft.

At 1453, the nearest airport was reporting calm wind, 10 miles visibility, no clouds, temperature 21 °C, dewpoint 3 °C, and an altimeter setting of 30.04 inches of mercury. The calculated density altitude was 2060 ft.
At 1553, the nearest airport was reporting wind 340 at 4 knots, 10 miles visibility, no clouds, temperature 21 °C, dewpoint 6 °C, and an altimeter setting of 30.03 inches of mercury. The calculated density altitude was 2070 ft.

Another pilot/owner too old to fly. Why don't these geezers stay on the ground and save their families all that unnecessary heartache?
