- History of Flight:
On September 29, 2026, at about 1006 local time, an Eclipse 500, N816KD, registered to These Coins Are Cool LLC out of Hayden, Idaho, sustained substantial damage when it was involved in an accident at Auburn Municipal Airport (AUN/KAUN), Auburn, California. The pilot and passenger were not injured. The personal flight originated from Auburn at 0848.

The FAA reported that the airplane landed and the right brake failed, causing it to veer off runway and the front wheel gear collapsed.

Preliminary ADS-B data shows that, at 1005:15, the jet was descending through 2,000 ft with a groundspeed of 98 knots and -700 feet per minute (fpm) rate while on final approach to runway 25. At 1005:41, the jet touched down about 1,000 ft down the runway with a groundspeed of 83 knots. At 1006:12, the jet departed the left side of runway 25 while going about 20 knots (GS).

The accident jet, serial number 000003, was manufactured in 2006. It was a low-wing, T-tail airplane powered by twin tail-mounted Pratt & Whitney Canada PW610F turbofan engines. The airplane was certificated for single pilot operation and was capable of carrying up to six occupants.

According to the airplane flight manual, the braking system was "mechanically actuated and hydraulically operated. Braking was provided by hydraulically operated single disc brakes on each main gear. When pressure is applied to the toe brakes, hydraulic pressure is applied to the corresponding main gear brake."

Post-accident photos show tire skid marks leading up to the left side of runway 25.

KAUN is a non-towered public airport located 3 miles north of Auburn, California. The airport field elevation is 1538.2 ft. The airport features a single asphalt runway 7/25 which is 3700 x 75 ft.

According to the Emergency section of the airplane’s Airplane Flight Manual (AFM) provided procedures, when the brakes are ineffective, or the airplane pulls to one side, specifically:

1. Maintain directional control using rudder and steering

2. Brakes: Release

3. ALL INTERRUPT: PRESS and HOLD

4. Reapply Brakes (Pump Brakes as required): Stop Normally

NOTE: ABS Functionality Unavailable

The Description and Operation section of the AFM stated:

If emergency disablement of the ABS is needed, the pilot (or co-pilot) may press and hold the ALL INTERRUPT switch which will command the ABS to discontinue its function and restore normal braking. If the ALL INTERRUPT switch is held during heavy braking, the ABS will be inoperative and tires may skid until brake pressure is reduced by the pilot. When the ALL INTERRUPT switch is released the previous ABS state will be restored.
