- History of Flight:
On April 23, 2026, at about 1449 local time, a Cirrus SR22T GTS G6 Rhodium, N39VF, registered to Light Source Inc out of Charlotte, North Carolina, sustained substantial damage when it was involved in an accident near Chanute Martin Johnson Airport (CNU/KCNU), Chanute, Kansas. The pilot and passenger sustained minor injuries. The cross-country personal flight originated from Silver West Airport (C08), Westcliffe, Colorado, at 1127, and was destined to KCNU.
The FAA reported: "Aircraft experienced engine issues and deployed the chute." ADS-B data shows that the airplane departed C08 and entered a climb to an inflight cruising altitude of 17,800 ft. About 2 hours later, the airplane started its descent towards KCNU. At 1447, the airplane entered a right hand turn while descending through 5,550 ft. At 1449, the airplane was descending through 2,500 ft, 60 knots groundspeed, when it entered a tight left hand turn and activate the airframe parachute. The airplane came to rest upright in a treeline. The tail was severed.

At 1436, KCNU reported the following weather conditions: Winds 170 at 25 knots, gusting 37 knots, 10 miles visibility, a scattered cloud layer at 2,200ft AGL, a broken cloud layer at 2,800ft AGL, an overcast ceiling at 4,600ft AGL, temperature 23°C, dewpoint 18°C, and an altimeter setting of 29.63 inches of mercury.
