- History of Flight:
On August 9, 2026, at about 0739 local time, a privately-registered Mooney M20E Chaparral, N9257V, sustained substantial damage when it was involved in an accident near Conway-Horry County Airport (HYW/KHYW), Conway, South Carolina. The pilot was not injured. The flight was originating at the time.
The FAA reported that the airplane crashed short of the runway due to engine issues.
Preliminary ADS-B data shows that the airplane departed runway 22 and climbed to an altitude of 1,000 ft before initiating a 180 turn back to the airport. The airplane ended up landing in a wooded area short of the airport.
