On June 22, 2026, about 1840 central daylight time, a Bell 47G-2 helicopter, N65520, was substantially damaged when it was involved in an accident near Troy, Missouri. The pilot sustained serious injuries. The helicopter was operated as a Title 14 Code of Federal Regulations (CFR) Part 91 personal flight.
The pilot reported that the purpose of the flight was to practice hovering and traffic patterns at Troy Airpark (02MO), Troy, Missouri. After completing several traffic patterns to runway 26, he switched directions to depart on runway 8. The pilot stated that during the climb after translational lift, 50 to 75 ft above ground level, the helicopter began an uncommanded left roll. The pilot was unable to stop the left roll with a right cyclic input. The helicopter continued to roll left as it descended into trees. The helicopter came to rest on its right side. A couple of individuals immediately responded to the accident site to assist the pilot from the helicopter. The helicopter sustained substantial damage to the fuselage, tailboom, and tail rotor driveshaft.
