- History of Flight:
On July 23, 2026, at about 1419 local time, a privately-registered Grumman American AA-1 Yankee, N6132L, sustained substantial damage in a forced landing near Kearneysville, West Virginia. The pilot and passenger were not injured. The local flight originated from Eastern West Virginia Regional Airport/Shepherd Field (MRB/KMRB), Martinsburg, West Virginia, at 1345.
The FAA reported that the airplane lost power and crashed in a field. ADS-B data shows that the airplane was conducting aerial work over Berryville, WV, and was cruising north back towards KMRB when it entered a descending left hand turn into an open field.
The airplane came to rest inverted and there was no post crash fire. The engine was impact damaged and separated from the airframe. The right wing was impact damaged and separated, the left wing was impact damaged and remained attached to the fuselage. The tail was bent around 90 degrees and sustained extensive impact damage. Both main landing gear remained attached to the airframe.
