- History of Flight:
On September 23, 2026, at about 1753 local time, a privately-registered Magni Gyro M16 Tandem Trainer gyroplane, N109MG, was destroyed when it was involved in an accident near Lesterville, Missouri. The private pilot and passenger were fatally injured. The personal flight had originated from Washington County Airport (8WC), Potosi, Missouri.
The accident occurred along the banks of the Black River. There were no known witnesses to the accident.
The accident was first known when first responders searched the GPS location provided by the device and were unable to find a crashed vehicle.
Later that evening, 8WC informed Reynolds County dispatch that a small aircraft had failed to return and provided the same location as the vehicle crash detection.
The accident site was located by a firefighter at 2349 LT. There was no post crash fire.
The pilot, aged 54, held a private pilot certificate with a rotorcraft/gyroplane rating. His FAA BasicMed Course was dated 9/22/2026. The pilot's third class medical from 2024 noted that he must use corrective lens(es) to meet vision standards at all required distances.
There is virtually no hope of surviving any type of crash in these flimsy things, but "pilots" keep on trying.
