On May 12, 2026, at about 1049 local time, a privately-registered Stinson 108-3 Voyager, N588C, sustained substantial damage following a forced landing in Quilcene, Washington. The pilot was not injured. The personal flight originated from Diamond Point Airstrip (2WA1), Sequim, Washington, at 1030.
The FAA reported: "Aircraft experienced engine failure, fire and smoke in the cabin and landed in a field."
ADS-B data shows that the airplane was cruising at 3,800 ft. About 12 minutes into the flight, the airplane entered a descending 180 degree turn back to the north, the pilot eventually decided to put the airplane down in an open field. The airplane came to rest upright in some brush.
According to air traffic control communications, the pilot made a mayday callout "Mayday, mayday, mayday, 588C, 5 miles south of uh 10 miles south of uh… Port Townsend, engine failure." The pilot then added "Uh, engine fire, fire in the cockpit..." and "I’m gonna be coasting into a, uh, coasting into a farmers field..."
Post-accident photos show oil surrounding the entire engine coverage and windshield,
The local fire department posted additional close-ups of the engine, which showed evidence of a catastrophic failure/fire.
