- History of Flight:
On April 16, 2026, at about 0954 local time, a Cirrus SR22 GTS X G3 Turbo, N654MC, sustained substantial damage when it was involved in an accident shortly after takeoff from runway 20 at Santa Fe Regional Airport (SAF/KSAF), Santa Fe, New Mexico. The pilot and passenger were not injured. The personal flight was destined to Taos Airport (SKX/KSKX), Taos, New Mexico.
Preliminary information indicates the airplane experienced a loss of engine power shortly after takeoff and the pilot deployed the CAPS system. The airplane came to rest upright near the Ojo Santa Fe Spa Resort (see figure).
ADS-B data shows that the airplane departed runway 20 (field elevation 6273.3 ft, length 8366 x 150 ft) and climbed to about 6,800 ft before it entered a left hand descent and activated the CAPS system at about 6,500 ft.

Weather conditions at the time included: Winds 240 at 21 knots, gusting 30 knots, visibility 10 miles, no clouds under 12,000 ft, temperature 15°C, dewpoint -12°C, and an altimeter setting of 29.95 inches of mercury.
