Velocity 173 Elite FG, N6954K, accident occurred on August 10, 2026, at Zelmer Memorial Airpark (5K1), Palmyra, Illinois

- History of Flight:
On August 10, 2026, at about 1249 local time, a privately-registered Velocity 173 Elite FG, N6954K, sustained substantial damage when it was involved in an accident at Zelmer Memorial Airpark (5K1), Palmyra, Illinois. The pilot and two passengers were not injured. The flight originated from St. Louis Regional Airport (ALN/KALN), Alton/St Louis, Illinois, at 1219.

The FAA reported that the airplane landed and rolled off the end of the runway into a field incurring a propeller strike.

Preliminary ADS-B data shows that the airplane was cruising at 7,600 ft when it entered two descending orbits north of Zelmer and proceeded to land on runway 18. The NTSB is investigating the event as an accident and assigned the defining event as a loss of engine power (total).
