Solar Impulse 2, N247PF, accident occurred on May 4, 2026, in Gulf of America

- History of Flight:
On May 4, 2026, at about 0628 local time, an experiment, solar-powered aircraft, the Solar Impulse 2, N247PF, was destroyed when it crashed into the Gulf of America following a loss of engine power off Bay St. Louis, Mississippi.

On May 7th, 2026, the NTSB reported that the flight originated from the Stennis International Airport (KHSA), Klin, Mississippi, and that they are investigating the event as an accident (as class 4, a preliminary report will not be issued but a final report will be released at the conclusion of the investigation.) 

The NTSB's Chief of Air Carrier and Space Investigations was appointed as the investigator in charge.
